In this class we will focus on large format urban landscape painting in oils. Students  will have the opportunity to work from photographs or plein air sketches from the neighborhood around the Park Blvd. Studio.  There will be an emphasis on creating mood through dramatic lighting including how to paint a night scene.  Abstract elements of composition as well as group critique will be an important part of this class.

In advanced oil painting techniques this session we will paint large format projects from still life set ups created by the class. You will have an opportunity to contribute your idea and props to set up still life compositions. We will discuss the set up process and how it affects format and composition.  We will study aspects of composition by looking at the paintings of the impressionist  still life painters and through critique of student work each week.  The first class meeting we will be creating and photographin still life set ups.  You may bring props to contribute to the set up (non perishable) and a digital camera. You will not need your painting equipment for the first class.
